This finely crafted HandPan features the D Kurd scale, a richly expressive and versatile scale cherished for its warm, soulful character. It begins with a resonant D3 centre note (ding), creating a grounding bass presence. Surrounding it are nine carefully tuned tone fields spanning from A3 to C5 on the top, and eight notes on the bottom from E3 to A5 – giving this instrument a total of 18 notes.
Part of our new Old-School, Hand-Hammered line, this instrument is created entirely by manual means, hammered by hand without the use of pneumatic tools like air hammers or presses. This traditional approach results in a truly authentic character, rich resonance, and a deeply organic feel.
The D Kurd scale combines minor and Middle Eastern-influenced flavours, lending itself beautifully to meditative, emotional, and improvisational playing. With accessible intervals and an intuitive layout, it’s ideal for beginners seeking flow as well as seasoned players exploring complex melodic and rhythmic textures.
